Student Accommodation

Ovidius University offers a total of 4 dormitories that accommodate over 1300 students. Space is limited, and acceptance is competitive.

On the bright side, living costs in Constanta are below the European average, so your best option is to rent an apartment close to the university campuses. A single-bedroom flat will cost you around €300 to €450 per month, depending on the location. Living costs amount to around €500 (rent excluded).

You can, however, take advantage of the university cafeteria, which offers affordable meals and is situated on the central university campus. Nearby, you can find Ovidius University Library, though you can access it online via the virtual library.

There’s a language centre where you can practise your Romanian language or communicate with other students in English, German, French, and Italian.

You can participate in various athletic activities in the University Sports Centre, such as aerobics, basketball, bodybuilding, dance, yoga, football, tennis, and volleyball.

Ovidius University Admission & Entry Requirements

To be eligible for entry into the first year of medicine, you have to:

  • Pass in Biology & Chemistry during the final three years of High School. (UK students must have Passed Biology & Chemistry at A-Level).
  • Pass the English test (we will help you do so). However, you are exempted from it if you are a native English speaker or have an English language proficiency certificate from an accredited institution.

Additionally, here you can find a complete list of the high school diplomas by country needed for admission.

Life as a Medical Student in Constanta, Romania

Constanta came into existence after the defeat of the great Persian Empire by the brave and defiant queen Tomyris. In a historic battle, Tomyris slew no other but Cyrus the Great, and in commemoration of her victory, she founded a city on the Black Sea coast. She named it Tomis after herself.

Centuries later, the Roman emperor renamed the city Constanta in honour of his sister Constantia, another noble-born woman of great power. The name means “constant”, and it perfectly suits the city’s spirit because there is a sense of permanence here.

Constanta is a vibrant city in the warm months with its beaches and seaside attractions such as the dolphinarium and the many excellent seafood restaurants. In addition, the city has many nightclubs and bars competing for the attention of aspiring doctors. Besides, the Never Sea Music Festival is an annual event of international popularity.

Even in the colder months, Constanta stays a hub of culture, offering quieter joys like the philharmonic, opera, and theatre shows. Future doctors can explore Constanta’s historic Old Town, wander through the city’s parks, or visit its shopping malls. The city also has many nightclubs and venues that put on live shows.

And if you are looking for a weekend getaway from the city, there is always the Danube Delta Micro Reservation as a top destination. It is less than a couple of hours’ drive away, and it is an unforgettable experience. The natural park is home to unique bird and plant species, and the boat tours are a splendid way to observe them.
