Life as a Medical Student in Poznan, Poland

Poznan means “known” in Polish, and the name is quite fitting since it’s the second most prosperous city in Poland. The city skyline blends historical sights such as Poznan’s Cathedral and the Royal Castle with feats of modern architecture such as the Baltyk building.

With 140,000 students in the city, 1 out of 4 inhabitants is a student. Naturally, Poznan has plenty of ways to accommodate young people and their needs. Juwenalia, Poland’s student holiday, is especially festive here with lots of musical, sports, and cultural events.

The city has a rich cultural life, and its theatre scene deserves special attention. Over 30 theatrical groups in the city perform both on stage and off-theatre. In addition, the local classical music traditions are represented in monthly concerts at the university’s Aula.

The Malta Festival and St Martin’s Day are local holidays with significant contributions to Poznan’s life. The first features various performances, while the second is famous for the horse parade across the city.
