Accommodation

Pomeranian Medical University offers a dormitory located near the university’s campus. The rooms are single and double, fully furnished and equipped with a kitchenette and a private bathroom. 

The cost of the rooms varies between €100 and €200 per month. The dormitory’s desk works 24/7, which means you can arrive any time and pay your first rent and deposit there.

If you prefer to go for your own flat, the rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Szczecin is around €350 based on how close to the city centre you are. Including the utilities and living expenses, you will need around €800 per month.

Life as a Medical Student in Szczecin, Poland

Szczecin straddles the Oder River, and the Dabie lake washes its eastern shores. The city has excellent conditions for watersports, such as kayaking, waterskiing, and wakeboarding. Experienced mariners can even hire a boat and navigate the Szczecin Lagoon all the way to the Baltic Sea.

While braving the Northern waters is a fun activity, the Szczecin offers far subtler pleasures in its many museums, galleries, theatres, and concert stages. In addition, the cafes, bars, and nightclubs serve as social hubs for the many international students within the city.

Szczecin is a very green city with many parks and gardens within it. Right outside the city, people can visit the Bukowa Forest and Landscape Park. The location is full of trails and picnic sites, and it is an excellent place to recharge energy after a long week of studying.

Term Dates

The academic year here starts at the end of September, and the first semester ends in mid-February. There is a 20-day winter break and a 1-week break between the first and second semesters. 

The summer semester starts at the beginning of March and lasts until the first week of July.

About Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin

Pomeranian Medical University (PMU) was established in 1948 in Szczecin, Poland. It consists of 4 faculties devoted to medicine and health sciences. The Medical Faculty of PMU was founded in 1996, and 10 years later, the Faculty of Dentistry also started operating.

Szczecin is located in Northwestern Poland and is the seventh-largest city in the country. It is located near the Baltic Sea and the shore of Dabie Lake. The town’s history dates back to the 8th century, and nowadays, you can visit many castles and museums in your leisure time.

Every year, the university welcomes 150 new international students who embark on the path of studying medicine in English in Europe. The university has been teaching medical programmes in English for more than 20 years now. This puts it among the first medical schools to offer medicine in English in Poland.

The medical course duration is 6 years, and the dentistry is held for 5 years. Both are fully taught in English. The university is using the ECTS point system, which makes student transfer easier. 

During your studies, you will be attending training in laboratories, clinical hospitals, and on-site practice. No matter how fun the practical part is, you will also have to attend lectures to acquire the needed medical knowledge. 

There are no graduate entry route here but the university accepts students transfer.
