About Belarusian State Medical University

Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU) was founded in 1921 in the city of Minsk. The university now has 8 faculties devoted to medical sciences. During World War II, the medical school didn’t function for 2 years between 1941 and 1943. At the end of 1943, BSMU moved to Yaroslavl to resume its work, and shortly after, in 1944 came back to its former location in Minsk.

Minsk is the capital of Belarus, located on the Svislac and Niamiha rivers. The city has a population of almost 2 million people, which makes it the 11th most populous in Europe.

BSMU is among the top European medical universities with over 100 years of experience in training future doctors. It didn’t take long before the university developed a dentistry programme and opened a dental faculty in 1960. With that great success and ranking as one of the leading Belarusian medical universities, Belarusian State Medical University decided to open its doors to the whole world. In 1967 the medical faculty welcomed its first international students.
