    Accommodation Costs

    Our experience throughout the years has provided us with valuable insight in the real estate field with which we will help you find the best accommodation for you.

    Accommodation

    The University of Pecs has 10 dormitories, 4 of which are for international students. Most of the dorms have recently been renovated and offer fully furnished rooms. All rooms are separated into blocks with 2 double rooms and a shared bathroom.

    The dorms are located close to the faculties and the city center in quiet, residential areas. In the shared facilities, you can use study rooms, a lounge, a gym, bike storage, parking slots, a cafeteria, and a student club. The rent is pretty reasonable, only €150 per month, and it also includes the free usage of the facilities and the utilities.

    If you prefer private accommodation, you can rent a one-bedroom flat in Pecs for around €300 per month. Adding the utilities and average living expenses, you will need about €800 monthly.

    University of Pecs Admission & Entry Requirements

    Applications for the three programmes have some standard criteria and differences. Applying for any of the courses requires a Europass CV in English, a vaccination card, and an HIV test result, which is obligatory. If your choice is dentistry or pharmacy, it is not required to take any exams. All you need is a high school diploma and a transcript.

    When applying for the MD programme in English, it is obligatory to take the entrance exam. It is a complex exam that consists of written and oral parts. It can only be attended physically and not online. Applicants have 150 minutes to answer 100 questions – 20 Biology questions, 20 Chemistry questions, and 60 English language questions.

    The oral part of the exam aims to evaluate your English speaking skills and motivation to study medicine.

    Life as a Medical Student in Pecs, Hungary

    Pecs has 2,000 years of history, and for a Central European town, it boasts quite an eclectic past. It began as a Roman wine-producing settlement but then fell under nomadic rule. Charlemagne conquered it from the Avars, and the city became part of the Holy Roman Empire. Centuries later, the Ottomans conquered it from the Hungarians, and then it went back to Austria-Hungary.

    All these map changes through the centuries culminate into a diverse architectural landscape for international students to explore. Roman Necropolis? Check! Medieval churches built with Roman basilica stones? Check! Turkish baths? Check! Ottoman mausoleum of a Sunni mystic and miracle worker? Check! Catholic Bishop’s Palace? Check!

    The city has no shortage of landmarks, and students can quickly become spoiled by historical buildings. After all, the University of Pecs itself was established in 1367, and its main building is also a landmark.

    Still, history alone is not enough to feed a student’s soul. However, the local bar and club scene do provide some adequate nourishment. The city has several fascinating museums and art galleries with stimulating exhibitions.

    Term Dates

    The academic year starts in the first week of September, and the first term ends mid-December. The exams are held from December until the end of January.

    The spring semester starts in early February and lasts until mid-May. Right after the end, the exams start and finish at the end of June.
