Looking to provide a higher standard of care for your loved ones as a caregiver? Here’s where the Caregivers Training Grant could come in handy.

What is the Caregivers Training Grant?

The Caregivers Training Grant is a $200 annual training grant that caregivers can use to offset the costs of approved courses, such as day-to-day care, behaviour management, and functional skills development in areas like stroke management and bowel care and catheter management.

The $200 subsidy is provided for each care recipient every financial year (from 1 April to 31 March the next year). Do note that the grant is tied to the care recipient and not the number of caregivers per care recipient.

Who is Eligible for the Caregivers Training Grant?

Care recipients must either be a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident, aged 65 and older, or have a disability as assessed by a doctor in order for their caregivers to qualify for the Caregivers Training Grant.

The caregiver must also be the main person in charge of caring for the care recipient, and have completed a training course and received a certificate of attendance if there is one.

If there is more than one caregiver per care recipient, then the $200 would need to be shared among the caregivers who wish to attend the approved training courses. For example, if there are two caregivers taking care of Mr Tan, the total grant still amounts to $200 per year and not $400, as there is only one care recipient.

How Do I Apply for the Caregivers Training Grant?

After choosing a training programme from the pre-approved list of courses, you need to contact the service provider at least two weeks before the course begins to inform them that you are applying for the grant. The trainer will send you an application form to fill out and submit the completed form for you.

A minimum co-payment of $10 is required upon registration. More information on how to apply for the grant can be found here.

What Courses Can I Apply for?

The Caregivers Training Grant can only be used to defray the costs of courses available on the Caregiver Training Courses e-calendar. The trainer may conduct the class in your home or in a classroom at a training centre. If you are interested in learning more on your own schedule, then you may also use a computer or other electronic devices to access training videos and reading materials.

What If I Do Not Utilise the $200 Grant Within the Year?

The annual grant of $200 must be used within the financial year of 1 April to 31 March the next year. Any amount that is not used will be forfeited and cannot be carried over to the following year. The grant can also only be used to defray the costs of training programmes that are completed no later than 15 March of the financial year.
